Santosh Sivan to direct Vijay?

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 03:49 AM PST

Vijay seems to have developed a special rapport with ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan.

The star is reportedly in awe with the cinematographer's skills in handling the camera and his sound knowledge in directing films.

It may be mentioned here that Santosh Sivan had directed the critically acclaimed Malayalam film Urumi which was also released in Tamil. Apart from Urumi, Santosh has several other films to his credit. Sources say that Vijay wants to work with Santosh Sivan and has asked him to get a story ready for him. It is said that Santosh may have an offbeat film for Vijay.

The project may start rolling only after Thuppaki is safely wrapped up and ready for release.

Vijay's Tough cop role in thuppaki :)

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 04:50 AM PST

Ilayathalapathy Vijay gives evasive replies whenever you ask him about his role in the forthcoming high action entertainer Thuppakki directed by A.R. Murugadoss — in fact, the duo have been carefully keeping all details about the film under wraps.
But our sources in Mumbai(Deccan cronicle), where the first schedule of shooting took place for 40 days, confirm that the Velayudham star is essaying an encounter specialist in the movie.
"Vijay is acting as a high profile cop from Mumbai and most part ofthe film takes place in the business capital," says the unit source.Reportedly, a hilarious scene was shot recently by Murugadoss — atypical pen paarkkum padalam (the traditional way of 'seeing' agirl by the boy's family for fixing an alliance) scene in which Vijay, straight from work and clad in khaki, comes to see his bride-to-beplayed by Kajal Agarwal and she serves him sweets and coffee. WhileSanthosh Sivan cranks the camera, Harris Jayaraj has been roped in forthe music.
Sources inform that thanks to the ongoing strike in the filmindustry, Vijay is hitting the gym everyday and running those extramiles — to get the perfectly-toned body of a tough cop.

Nanban Collection Next Only To Endhiran..!

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 04:39 AM PST

The strong run that Nanban is having in certain circuits even a month after its release has got the distributors raving about the wonders it has performed at the box office. Nanban has shown nothing less than phenomenal performance in the Madurai and Coimbatore belts. The distributors for these areas, Ramesh and Sivakumar, respectively have stated that almost all centres are witnessing repeat audiences and that is sustaining the collections in a big way. The gross collection of Nanban from 4 circuits of Coimbatore is around Rs. 5.5 crores. This is next only to Superstar's Endhiran that had done a business of Rs. 8.0 crores during its initial month in the same 4 circuits. Yes, a difference of 2.5 crores in a months run in a district between two movies is quite huge. But, one must also take into account the fact that the tickets for Endhiran during the initial week had sold out for Rs. 500 and above while Nanban tickets were in the normal range of Rs 70-100 in both Madurai and Coimbatore. What does this mean? Well, it's a complex issue of various factors. That a star can command houseful audiences even with tickets selling for Rs.500 is an indication of the crowd pulling power that he has. At the same time, if Nanban has gone on to make nearly 70% of Endhiran's collection within the same running period, it means that it commanded a lot of repeat audiences, which the distributors say is true. Of course, we should also understand that the lower ticket rates is also a factor in attracting repeat audiences; which is something that Endhiran could not have done with ticket rates hitting the ceiling. All said and done, the final numbers state one fact; in many circuits the business that Nanban has generated is second only to Endhiran; and it is definitely the highest ever numbers generated by a Vijay starrer; not to forget Jiiva. And, in the midst of Endhiran, Nanban, Rajni and Vijay, we should not forget the one man common to all this- shankar. He has truly emerged as the biggest revenue generating director of the industry.

Vijay Visit Coimbatore

Posted: 03 Feb 2012 06:15 AM PST

vijay @ kovai
Illayathalapathy fans all over Kovai were in for a treat, as the actor made a whirlwind visit to Coimbatore on the back of Nanban's immense success. At the press meet organised by Cosmo Village Pictures, Vijay was truly in his element.
Casually attired in a T-shirt and jeans, the actor distributed giftsand laptops to underprivileged men and women, spent time with his fanclub members, and even joined us for a friendly chat.
"I really don't know much about the collections and profits thateveryone keeps talking about. I only ask people one thing — whetherthey're happy once they leave the theatre. I was requested to come toCoimbatore to see the response to Nanban, and I personallyyearned for interaction with the audience and press as well. I, myself, had wanted to see a new Vijay in a movie, and I'm happy that it'sworked out," he smiles.
So, why did it take him so long to embrace a different role? "Well,I couldn't do it myself; I needed a director to back me with a goodscript. After Kaavalan, this was one film in which I wasoffered a different role, thanks to Shankar Sir. This is easily one ofmy best films," says Vijay.
On the experience of working with his Nanban co-stars, hequips, "Both Srikanth and Jiiva were my friends before the shooting;now we've become even closer! I'd been waiting to work with SathyarajSir for so long and finally got the chance to. He has no fights orchases in the movie, but he's pulled off a new type of villainouscharacter brilliantly!"
Was he also a trouble-maker during his college days like his character Pari in Nanban?"I was a normal student honestly. Yes, the occasional mischief didhappen, just like any other youngster," he admits. Vijay shares a bitabout his next venture, Thuppakki, with director A.R.Murugadoss, "It's a story set in Mumbai and I just finished a 35-daylong shoot there. It's a movie in an altogether new dimension, and I'mreally excited about it."
Nanban's message was to inspire youngsters to follow theirhearts and take up the careers that they desire, so would he let hisson do the same? "Absolutely! My responsibility is to be a good parentand provide Sanjay with a basic education; he can do whatever he wantsto after that," he laughs.
A quick tour of Coimbatore followed, with Vijay visiting theatreslike Central, KG Big Cinema and Archana-Darsana, and even watching themovie for a few minutes with the surprised, excited crowd of cheeringfans. All izz well, indeed!
